The Locations that are used in the Kickstarts video are; A home and outside in a garden. The locations have been used because the song is all about the fear of commitment, and in the real world couples are either likely to live together or be in that stage were they stay at one anothers houses each day etc. This fits well with the song because it adds realistic values and makes it seem more apparent in what the storyline is. The style of the costumes used in the video are all very stylish and fit well with the video structure, they use outfits such as jeans and a t-shirt, the young girl who is featured in the video is wearing very girly, attractive clothing. They use these styles because it is appealing to its target audience, for example you see your favourite band wearing a t-shirt from topshop, you would go and buy it because you think it makes you look good that your wearing a top that a famous band has got/worn.

The storyline of the song is all about the Fear of commitment, and not wanting to be with someone anymore, yet everytime you see them the love starts again as you remember how good you have it with them.

At the start of the video it shows peoples feet tapping along in time with the music, I think this is very effective as it adds to the style of the video. As it goes on many varieties of people's feet are involved and it slowly gets smaller and smaller, then goes into a shot of the young girl which cues the lead singer to start singing. as the song goes on and the beat of the music picks up, there are quick edits of many other young men, this means and represents that many other men are in the same situation as the lead singer.

Research - The Meaning of Kickstarts

The meaning of Example - Kickstarts, is the fear of commitment. This is shown throughout the song through the lyrics, for example "You want me to come over, I got an excuse", which means his girlfriend is wanting him to come over and see her, yet he has made up an excuse because he has a fear of commitment and thinking seeing her will just make it worse, yet it is apparent he is still wanting to be with her because "Look into your eyes, imagine life without ya" shows he is thinking that he couldn't imagine life without being with her. And all his feelings start over again, which in the song is "And the love Kickstarts again".

Won't Go Quietly

The location that was used during this music video was a club that was set underground. This adds to the genre of the music because of the way the band are singing in the club, and the style of the mise en scene which has a indie/electronic atmosphere. The costumes that are used are stylish, young and appealing to its target audience, and they fit well with the genre conventions. The storyline of the video is about a young girl who walks into the club and is wanting to get noticed by the lead singer, as the band are singing on stage, but everyone starts pushing her around and starts to feel really awkward. As the video goes on, at the end she screams and wakes up, turns out it was just a dream and she is in bed with the lead singer. In the background of the video whilst the band are singing on stage, there is a large "X" which represents eXample. The style of the video is very modern and young, it represents what a club for young adults would look like.


Last One Standing
The video starts with quick edits of a car driving down a road, and driving the car is the lead singer of the band who is playing the role of a Police officer. as the quick edits show the car pull into a building/garage, the lead singer and a female character emerge from the car, which brings on the title "Example in Last one Standing", the title is brought on and looks like an 80s style TV show. This relates to the style of the music video as the mise en scene i.e the police station, looks like an 80's style police station. As the song goes on, the costumes become more apparent as they represent the 80s fashion back then, with the trousers, sunglasses, blazers etc. The story of the video starts to become clearer as the lead singer and the female officer appear to be chasing someone, which would identify them as a crimanal. It becomes clear that they are dealing with a piracy case, as in the mise en scene the whiteboard has "PIRACY" in the middle. It then cuts to a group of 3 males in a building sorting through CDs with the name EXAMPLE. This indicates that this is the Piracy the video is talking about. The next shot is the two police officers in the car searching for the piracy gang. As they come across the criminal, various camera shots and edits are used in order to make it quick and snappy and also to tie in with the style of the video. After researching more into the video and how it was made, I came across a behind the scenes clip of how they made the video and the lead singer is talking about what its about and says "its about a cop drama, so a parody of the cop dramas that are around. The locations what were used were a police station, and in a car park. The costumes are very 80s with the jeans, leather jackets, shirts, blazors and sunglasses. The storyline for the video is about Piracy, the leas singer and 3 other actors play the police officers, and there is a group of 3 who are the criminals pirating Example's album. The style of the video is very 80's and the quick edits match the beat.

The storyline for this video is about a holiday romance, as he was on holiday and met this girl, but he has to go home and doesnt want to say goodbye. yet when he gets home all he thinks about was his time there with her, and his memories about her, which are portrayed through the lyrics, for example, . The colour of the video is that when he has a flashback about being with her on holiday, its shown using bright lighting, were as when he is at home on his own the colour is faded and not as bright. The video uses Animation, which as he is walking down the street reminiscing about his holiday, the animation is used to show the locations and surroundings of his holiday. For example, a building block becomes a view of the place he stayed. The costumes that are used in the video are stylish - T-shirts and jeans, were as the girl is wearing a red dress throughout the whole video which stands out in the mans mind as one of his memories.

Statement Of Intent

Statement of Intent

My name is Alexandra Turnbull, I am 18 years old and am currently in my final at York College studying A Levels. My main interest is Media and everything to do with that industry as I hope to pursue a career in the industry in the future.

We have to research the music industry, produce a video, create a digipack and film an advert for its release. The research will consist of researching products that are currently around, audience research, detailed plans and then an explanation as to how we created it and if it worked.

I have decided on using this blogging site because I think its simple enough to understand as I have never used a blog before. I can clearly understand how to change the fonts, add all the information by importing it into the site, and also it is very clear, there is nothing to misleading on the page, its simple enough to work. I have compared this site to other blogging profiles, and many of the others such as tumblr.com, and wikiblog.com, were too hard for myself to understand, blogger.com is easy and simple enough for what I needed.

We are doing the coursework because although the exam board have set the work, it was my own choice to return back onto the course as I am hoping to get into the media industry in the future for my career, so working in the second year would give me more experience in the industry.

The project will take around 14/15 weeks which will include at least a couple of weeks to edit the video.

The resources that I will use in order to help me with my research would be using websites such as youtube.com as I can watch music videos, also using the TV so I can watch MTV, as they have various genres of music that they play, this will help me understand more about my specific genre. Also with my research using various using various books and internet sites so I can find out more about the music industry.

The types of resources I can use in order to find locations would be either use the college campus, or look into the various places that are situated around college, such as the city centre of York.

The resources that will help will help me when finding actors would be either use the students that are in my class, or to find friends that are able to feature in the music video. When looking at what resources I can get my video “out” so that I can get people to watch and provide feedback. I can use sites like youtube as they will provide many of my target audience a chance in watching it, as well as other audiences who may come across it.

I hope that the portfolio will go well as I am going to work extra hard so that I am able to get the grade I want. I hope that I don’t struggle with anything or not understand what I am needing to do. I am determined to meet every deadline so that I don’t fall behind on work.

I want to get out of the project a good grade and understanding more about the music industry, also I am hoping to have worked hard towards achieving the best grade I can.

I am going to ensure that my project works and runs smoothly by meeting all the deadlines to the best I can. I am going to ensure my work is up to the best possible standard it can, to make sure I achieve the grade I intend.
